Advocates for the Arts
A Chapter of The Society, Incorporated, Supporting the Arts
NATIONAL HISTORY
The Society, Incorporated was founded in May 1983 by four visionary and compassionate women: Celeste Burton, Davetta Madison, Dorothy Paton, and Myrtle Roane. The Society’s first organizational meeting was held in June 1983 at the Vista Hotel in Washington, D.C. The nameThe Society was chosen because it embodies the spirit of “an organized group of persons associated together for similar benevolent and cultural purposes.”
Through our work, Society chapters aim to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the vibrant dimensions of artistic expression.

Advocates for the Arts Chapter
LOCAL HISTORY
The Advocates for the Arts chapter is dedicated to increasing cultural awareness and exposing youth to the arts through innovative and engaging programming.
Our signature initiative, L.E.A.P. (Learn. Engage. Access. Participate.) into Art, is a comprehensive program designed to foster and sustain interest in the arts while providing middle-school-aged youth with enriching and relevant experiences.
Through exposure, opportunities, and engaging activities, we strive to inspire young people to explore their creativity and pursue their artistic dreams—all while having fun!
